T-Mobile Center Welcomes 2,000,000 Guest
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 29, 2009) – T-Mobile Center achieved another significant milestone by welcoming its 2 millionth guest during tonight’s sold-out concert featuring Country superstar duo Sugarland.
T-Mobile Center, Kansas City’s home for sports, concerts, family shows, collegiate competitions and special events, opened in Fall 2007. Originally projected to host 90 events and welcome nearly one million guests, T-Mobile Center has exceeded all expectations and projections by hosting 210 events in its first 18 months of operation.
“Kansas City’s enthusiasm for T-Mobile Center artists and events has sustained the momentum of a phenomenal opening year," said Brenda Tinnen, General Manager and Senior Vice President. "Recognition as one of the Top 5 of arenas in the United States combined with welcoming two million guests in our first 18 months of operation is truly a source of pride for our city and the region.”
Beginning with Elton John’s grand opening concert on Oct. 13, 2007, Kansas City has quickly become known for several sold out performances including three T-Mobile Center shows this month: Fleetwood Mac, Kenny Chesney and Sugarland. Kansas City has developed a reputation for welcoming a variety of diverse acts including Van Halen, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Reba McEntire, Kelly Clarkson, Lil’ Wayne, Kid Rock and Neil Diamond. In addition Kansas City has hosted multiple visits from Bon Jovi, Rascal Flatts, Jonas Brothers, the launch of Tina Turner’s North American Tour and nine record breaking shows by Garth Brooks - including a live broadcast into more than 300 movie theaters around the world.
Home to the College Basketball Experience, T-Mobile Center welcomed the 2008 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championships, and first- and second- rounds of the 2009 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships. In 2010, T-Mobile Center will again host the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championships and the NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional.
