T-Mobile Center Starts 2012 as America’s Second Busiest Arena

Kansas City, MO (April 16, 2012) – The 2012 first quarter rankings for live entertainment and concert ticket sales have been released by Pollstar Magazine, a leading concert and venue industry publication. In the April 23 issue which hits newsstands this week, T-Mobile Center is ranked as the second busiest arena in the United States and no. 7 among worldwide venues. T-Mobile Center, Kansas City’s award winning arena, was one of three US concert venues listed among the Top 10 Worldwide Arenas. Pollstar utilizes an extensive database to collect box office reports from nearly 100 percent of the world’s top-level artists, promoters and venues.

Rankings are based on tickets sold for live entertainment performances between Jan. 1 and March 31, 2012.

“As T-Mobile Center prepares to celebrate our fifth anniversary this fall, we are delighted that Kansas City continues to demonstrate strong demand for live entertainment and set attendance marks as evidenced by the #2 ranking among US arenas,” said Brenda Tinnen, AEG Kansas City general manager and senior vice president. “Working in partnership with promoters and artist managers to attract and promote diverse content has paid dividends for T-Mobile Center, our fans and the city of Kansas City.”

In just over 100 days, T-Mobile Center’s 2012 calendar was jam packed with diverse programming from a variety of genres including Brad Paisley, Jeff Dunham, George Strait and Martina McBride, Radiohead and Drake as well as family shows and motorsports events. T-Mobile Center hosted a half-dozen sold-out concerts in the first quarter of 2012 including setting a new venue concert attendance record with Jason Aldean on March 17. Additionally, T-Mobile Center earned its third consecutive Venue of the Year nomination from the Academy of Country Music.

T-Mobile Center’s success is not accidental nor easily duplicated. The award winning venue works to create an environment where guests and artists can enjoy a state-of-the-art entertainment experience and enjoys critical support from fans throughout the region. In fact, T-Mobile Center/AEG has provided more than $6.1 million in unanticipated revenue to the City of Kansas City, having exceeded financial and attendance projections in each year since opening.
