College Basketball is rooted in Kansas City, Mo., and two tradition-filled programs will celebrate that local history this season when the Missouri Tigers and Georgetown Hoyas collide at the T-Mobile Center on Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. in the 2010 John McLendon Classic.

Nationally televised on ESPNU, Missouri and Georgetown each advanced to NCAA Tournament play last year and both programs have been picked inside numerous preseason Top 25 polls this summer. Missouri returns a pair of starters and the second deepest bench in all of college basketball (31.6 bench points per game in 2010) from last season, while the Hoyas welcome back four starters, highlighted by the return of leading scorer Austin Freeman (16.5 ppg).

“What an outstanding game for our fans and of course Kansas City,” Head Coach Mike Anderson said. “This will be an NCAA Tournament-type atmosphere. We have two programs with proud traditions and to have this event in our backyard makes it fun for everyone. We want Tiger Nation to show up in force!”

Tickets for the McLendon Classic will go on sale later this summer through the Mizzou Athletics Ticket Office. Tiger Scholarship Fund members and Mizzou Basketball season ticket holders will receive priority ordering information about this game in the mail. Missouri and Georgetown have met just once on the hardwood, with the Hoyas claiming a 63-51 win on Feb. 20, 1982 in Washington, D.C. Ricky Frazier led the Tigers with 24 points and 14 rebounds, while Eric “Sleepy” Floyd dropped in 16 and Patrick Ewing recorded a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double. Georgetown advanced to the NCAA Tournament finals that season, but fell 63-62 to Michael Jordan and the North Carolina Tar Heels in New Orleans.

A portion of the proceeds from this contest will support the John McLendon Minority Postgraduate Scholarship Program, which assists minorities pursuing educational interests in sports administration.
